Toyota has one of the widest selections of family SUV options around. Here are a few you’ll find at our Toyota dealership.

Best Toyota SUVs For Family

1. RAV4

This model mainstreamed the compact crossover segment thirty years ago, and it’s still outpacing the rest of the class. It nails almost every metric that matters: gas mileage (front-wheel-drive variants get an estimated 35 mpg highway; all-wheel-drive versions manage 33-34 mpg there), safety (it has a five-star NHTSA rating), cargo space (it fits 10 carry-ons behind the rear seat, 22 with it folded), and choice (nine trims to pick from).

You can also get the RAV4 as a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid. The former is EPA-rated at 41 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, while the latter offers an estimated 42 miles of electric-only driving range.

2. Highlander

The RAV4 not cutting it on the people-hauling front? The Highlander is here with three rows and seating for up to eight or seven with those cushy captain’s chairs.

3. Grand Highlander

The grandest of Highlanders is about four inches longer than the regular one. However, that small stretch makes a big difference, especially in the third row, where adults can finally sit comfortably. Fuel economy holds strong here: 21 mpg city and 28 highway for gas models, or 37 mpg city and 34 highway if you go hybrid.

4. 4Runner

Most SUVs live on the pavement, but the three-row 4Runner feels at home in the rough stuff. Built on a body-on-frame chassis (translation: it can take a beating), it’s loaded with legit trail gear, like available disconnecting stabilizer bars, a locking rear differential, and off-road cruise control.

5. Sequoia

The Sequoia is Toyota’s biggest, most capable SUV. It comes standard with a second-row bench for eight-passenger seating, but you can swap in captain’s chairs if you’d rather ride seven in comfort. Every Sequoia is a hybrid, which means better fuel economy than anything else in the full-size SUV class.

When it comes to towing, the rear-wheel-drive SR5 pulls up to 9,520 pounds, while even the four-wheel-drive Capstone manages a hefty 8,980. That’s more than the Chevy Tahoe can tow (8,400 pounds) and just enough to nudge past the Ford Expedition (9,300 pounds).
