Basics About the Corolla Cross Hybrid

The Corolla Cross was introduced to the North American market in the 2022 model year, and the Cross Hybrid appeared in 2023. The Hybrid Nightshade is built around the Hybrid SE, but it has exclusive features like 18″ all-black alloy wheels, black and red seating, and dark-accented headlights/taillights.

Hybrid Performance and Fuel Economy.

The Corolla Cross Hybrid uses Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid technology in a 196-hp powertrain, combining a 2.0L Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine with an eCVT gearbox and a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). A PMSM enhances acceleration and responsiveness in hybrid vehicles, while the seamless automatic transmission contributes to a smooth and efficient ride.

Rated with a 1,500 lb towing capacity, the Corolla Cross Hybrid has a total 290 lb-ft of system torque (139 lb-ft from the engine and 151.94 lb-ft from the electric motor), though we should note the asymmetry in hybrid torque delivery. A standout Toyota Cross Hybrid feature is its fuel economy. It can do an estimated 45 mpg during city driving and 38 mpg on the highway, giving a combined score of 42 mpg (45/38/42 mpg).

Driver Assistance Technologies

The Corolla Cross Hybrid is loaded with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 technologies across all trims. These include Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, among others.
