We like to celebrate when spring arrives, especially in a colder climate like ours here in New Rochelle, NY. And the city provides a host of ways to do that. From painting to dancing to walking and more, you’ll find plenty of spring activities for everyone in your family. We’ve selected a few of our favorites that we know you’ll enjoy doing during these beautiful, warm, spring days.

3 Spring Activities You Can Drive to Near New Rochelle, NY

1. The Mall Walk at the Westchester

Join your neighbors here at the Westchester every Tuesday and Thursday, where you’ll enjoy walking around the shops for as many loops as you choose. One loop is equivalent to a half mile, so you’ll definitely get those steps in while conversing with your new friends. All you have to do is sign up on level two by the fountain. You’ll just need to also sign a waiver. And it doesn’t cost you a penny!

Meet at 8 a.m. and enjoy your activity until 10 a.m., or even longer if you’re super motivated. The address is 125 Westchester Ave. in White Plains, just a few miles from New Rochelle. This event began in April and runs through the summer months.

2. How to get Started in Amateur Astronomy With the Westchester Amateur Astronomers

Calling all star-gazing lovers! You’ll love this virtual presentation by the Westchester Amateur Astronomers as they guide you through what it takes to become an amateur astronomer. You’ll learn what to look for when purchasing your first telescope and also what you’re searching for when you look to the skies over the region.

The event is free; just register online at the New Rochelle Public Library’s website. The meeting will be held on May 3 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time.

3. Capoeira for Kids

Kids ages 3 to 11 will get an introduction to this Brazilian martial art through an interactive and fun course. In this sport, everyone will be in a circle while two attendees “fight” each other to the tunes of traditional Brazilian songs. Considered a combination of fighting and dancing, it is even treated as an art form. The date is May 6 and May 13 from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. for kids ages 3 to 5, and 11 a.m. to noon for kids ages 6 to 11.

Find this event at 1 Library Plaza in New Rochelle.
